the idea for saloon more or less came about because i see roughly a hundred things on various instagram stories per day that make me think: i must know someone who wants to do this. and why isn’t there a place where people from all over the world working within the same fields and interests can collaborate and chat shit and think up new ideas and talk opportunities, talk what’s happening in their fields, what’s missing from it. also because it’s exhausting looking for a project, and i’m always looking for a project.
saloon at its best is an easily navigable place for you to find and promote opportunities, events, and your work. talk ideas! share your work! plan, curate, execute events and collaborations with these people! slide into every and all DMs for a coffee or wine chat! get the inside scoop on work-life balance, salary, what it’s like to work at XYZ before you apply or commit or negotiate. tell us what you're going to this weekend! this is meant to be a behind the scenes space that empowers and informs us in our fields, workspaces, and interests. and to gab, obviously.
we’ve launched as of this week and i’m excited to already have representatives from outlets like Vox, NBC, The Infatuation, Who What Wear, Travel & Leisure, Bon Appetit, Domino, Coveteur vets (</3), brands like Loeffler Randall, Cassis, Saie, as well as designers (very happy to have fave brands Autumn Sonata and de Maria in here), writers, artists, foodies, collaborators, and every last one of my internet crushes (yk who you are). basically it’s an evolving networking concept that exists primarily on our Discord channel, which is free to join.
the newsletter, however, is the paid part, and the outfacing part of saloon where anyone can pay to subscribe to see whats going on inside saloon. in the newsletter, i’ll cull the contents of our chat: opportunities, events, partnership calls, who’s hiring, into a bulleted list for the general public. i’ll advertise certain events, highlight members of saloon, give people some insight into what’s going on in our community.
the catch?
its curation aspect. while anyone can be a paid subscriber to the saloon newsletter, you have to be nominated by an existing saloon member and vetted by our team to join the Discord chat.
why be exclusive?
we are keeping things slightly exclusive so as to create the best interior experience for our community—we want to make sure those that are part of our community are legitimately interested in advancing or improving their business, whatever that may be, and want to create a safe and welcoming environment so that our community feels saloon consistently holds valuable contacts, opportunities, and experiences!
what about industries outside of media/pr, fashion/beauty, and food?
although we’re launching with select industries—media, fashion, beauty, food, and bev—we hope to expand our reach in the future to the arts, music, and tech spaces. at the moment, we have a “miscellaneous” category as well, for people working in adjacent spaces!
