something you read/saw recently you enjoyed:
I saw Janet Planet recently and it made me giddy. It's a movie written by the playwright, Annie Baker, and it narrows in on the relationship of a mother and her daughter in rural Massachusetts. I think I really loved it because it reminded me of what it felt like to be a 10-year-old only child trying her best to make sense of life and adulthood. The observant kid who quietly paid very close attention to her surroundings, but was always kept just barely out of the earshot of adult conversations. I love anything packed with layers of complex nostalgia, so I just really loved this.
you love when this happens:
I love it when I time my ETA perfectly. With the trains being absolutely unpredictable and bus times never making any sense, to arrive exactly on time is a feeling like none other. True elation. I am very punctual and time management driven, so I seek this gratification...constantly.
last thing you bought irl:
In an effort to instigate some sense of momentum and change in my life, this week I did what many do and got a haircut. Bangs, specifically. So my most recent IRL purchases were various clips and bobby pins from Duane Reade to try to tame the beast I just created.
life hack:
Make a priority of buying very good sourdough bread from the farmers market or local bakery, then immediately slice the full loaf and freeze it. When you want bread (which for me, is daily) take a slice out to toast as needed and it will remain incredibly fresh and delicious. You will never stress about stale bread again. Also, only ever buy salted butter (specifically Isigny Ste Mère with sea salt crystals). It's the most simple pathway to happiness.
upcoming dinner reservation?
My most recent reservation was actually earlier this week, for Inga's Bar in Brooklyn Heights. It's my favorite spot - low-key and neighborhoody. Everything on the menu is perfect, but I go for the cheeseburger and fries (I am a child). I'd argue it's the best burger in town and they just added key lime pie to the menu and it's the best I've had in NYC by a landslide.
what are you doing this weekend?
I'm actually going to Denver to visit some friends from college! I had to ask them what I should pack - I fear my dainty mary janes and crisp, white Doen skirt are going to stand out against the sea of Melanzana hoodies and Chacos.
